Sciatica: When Is It More Than Just Back Pain?

How to recognise radiating leg pain and when a specialist assessment is important.

What sciatica feels like

Sciatica often travels from the lower back or buttock down one leg. It may be accompanied by tingling, numbness or weakness, commonly due to irritation or compression of a nerve root.

When to seek urgent help

Urgent evaluation is needed for progressive weakness, loss of bladder or bowel control, numbness around the groin, or symptoms after significant injury.
